I recently read this blog post on Star Trek novels.
Now, I am not a huge Trekkie or anything. I loved the original series but never bothered with any of the later incarnations. I did enjoy the J.J. Abrams reboot movie and will be watching "Into Darkness" at some point this week (just got the DVD!).
It's fair to say that my new-found love of ST is mainly down to becoming a fan of The Big Bang Theory. Me, my OH and our kids are working our way through TBBT DVDs and all the Star Trek fan-boy stuff has definitely rubbed off on me.
Anyway ... I was pleasantly surprised to see that some of the women writers from my list had written Star Trek novels. So (along with a couple I had not heard of) they get onto my list.
These are on my kindle now!
My Enemy, My Ally by Diane Duane
The Kobayashi Maru by Judith Ecklar (not on that list, but I like the sound of it!)
Ishmael by Barbara Hambly
Ghost Walker by Barbara Hambly
Crossroad by Barbara Hambly
Uhura's Song by Janet Kagan
Enterprise, The First Adventure by Vonda McIntyre
The Entropy Effect by Vonda McIntyre
Prime Directive by Judith & Garfield Reeves-Stevens
I am not sure whether my women-authors-only reading jag should include collaborations such as the last book mentioned above. I have another collaboration (Girl Genius by Phil and Kaja Foglio) jostling for inclusion. I think I'll allow them!
I am currently reading We Who Are About To ... by Joanna Russ and I will post some reflections on that when I finish it.
I am telling people that I am only going to read books by women for the next year. I reckon it'll be an excellent project for me!
